Odisha: Panda Infra disengaged from Jatani flyover construction

Bhubaneswar: Following allegations of poor quality work being carried out by Panda Infraprojects Pvt Ltd in construction of Jatani flyover bridge, the Odisha Works Department has disengaged the company from the project.

Informing about this, Works Department Secretary Nalinikant Pradhan said a fresh tender will be floated within a month for completion of the project. The construction work was going at a very slow pace. It was targeted to complete the flyover by 2015 but only 50 per cent work has been accomplished till date, the official said.

The firm was recently in the news for wrong reasons after an iron plate of the under-construction overbridge collapsed on August 9. A 5×5 feet iron plate along with construction materials had collapsed from the flyover near Kudiary Bazar in Jatani.

The Jatani Traders’ Association had alleged poor quality of work being carried out by the agency in construction of the bridge. The association had complained that the piling of the overbridge should be 60 feet deep, but the firm used 20 feet iron rods.

Earlier in May, the State Government had ordered a Vigilance probe into alleged irregularities in the under-construction overbridge.

Worth mentioning, Panda Infraprojects Pvt Ltd, which had also undertaken the construction work of Bomikhal railway overbridge (RoB) in Bhubaneswar whose iron rods collapsed on May 3 killing a labourer and injuring another, was barred from carrying out further construction of the RoB.
