Odisha: Parents out to celebrate Mahashivratri, divyang minor girl raped

Phulbani: In an appaling incident, a minor divyang was allegedly raped by a youth after luring her with chocolates when her parents were offering prayers at a temple on the occasion of Mahashivratri in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

The incident took place at Bisipada village under Sadar police limits on Monday evening.

The matter came to light after the victim’s parents lodged a police complaint in this regard today.

As per the available information, the accused had lured the nine-year-old girl when she was alone in her home while her parents had gone to a Shiva temple to offer prayers on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.

The youth, identified as Babuli Khudai, had taken the girl to a desolated place where he allegedly sexually harassed her, the victim’s parents said in their complaint with police.

Acting as per the written complaint, the police have registered an FIR against the accused under relevant sections of IPC.

At the time of the filing of this report, the youth was detained and further investigation was underway into the incident.

Recently, the tribal-dominated district was in the news for all the wrong reasons. In January, a Class 8 student of a government-run residential school delivered a baby inside her hostel toilet after being sexually assaulted by a married man.
