Odisha player Aparajita wins silver in World Amateur Chess Championship

Odisha girl Aparajita Gochhikar has won silver medal in the women’s category of the World Amateur Chess Championships, which concluded at the Halkidiki Islands in Greece on Wednesday.

Aparajita won with a score of 6.5 points  also bagged bronze in the open category.

She received the Candidate Masters title in the tournament from April 18 to 26.  She started the event ranked 57th, but finished with the gold medal in a competition which had 64 participants.

By finishing second, the Odisha girl has directly qualified for World Amateur Chess Championships-2017 in Italy. Aparajita also got 85 rating points from the tournament, the highest among all the competitors.

Aparajita finished second best with 6.5 points from nine rounds with five wins, three draws and one loss.
By finishing second Aparajita, who also finished third in the Open category (bronze medal).
