Odisha police arrest six more aides of dreaded criminal Bibhu

In the follow up of the police encounter case late on Saturday night in Odisha capital, the Commissionerate police this afternoon arrested six more criminals during its search operation at various places.

The accused were identified as Arjun Behera (21) of Dhauli area and Chandan Jena (22) of Mancheswar area in the city. From among six, both the accused were involved in the murder of a liquor salesman in the Old Town area here on February 2. However, three others are still absconding.

These criminals had executed the crime from directions of Bibhu Jena (24), the mastermind in the case who was in police custody after the police encounter yesterday night, police said.

Notably, Aditya Pradhan, a 35-year-old youth from Jagatsinghpur working as salesman at a foreign liquor shop located at Garage Chhak under Lingaraj police station area, was on his way to Sriram Nagar to hand over the keys of the shop and Rs 40,000 to his owner when some goons followed him on a bike and waylaid him near a club and stabbed him to death with sharp weapons.

The other four accused held were allegedly involved in snatching gold ornaments weighing around one kilogram at gunpoint from the owner of a jewellery shop located in Dumduma area on February 22.

They accused were identified as Balaram Dakua (24), Krushna Chandra Mohapatra (39), both hail from Khalikote area in Ganjam district, Hasim Akhtar (26) from Kharvela Nagar area and Sk Anwar Hussain (36) from Khandagiri area. Two are yet to be traced by police team who are still at large.

In this case also Bibhu was the mastermind who had guided his associates in the dacoity.

Police team have seized two fire arms, one four wheeler, two motorcycles, 800 grams gold ornaments, four live bullets and Rs 91,000 from the possession of these accused.

The accused were mostly committing crimes like loot, dacoity and burglary using fire arms. They have many cases pending against them at Banapur (three cases), Khalikote (three cases), Brajarajnagar (two cases), Kodala (two cases) and one case each at Jamshedpur, Khandagiri, Lingaraj, Mancheswar and Tamando police stations respectively.

Twin city Comissioner of Police DR R P Sharma said, three teams of commissionerate police had conducted search operations in Brahmapur, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to nab the associates of Bibhu, and another mastermind Rabi.

Investigation is on to nab the absconding accused persons, he added.
