Odisha Police arrests ITR officer for passing sensitive information to Pakistan

Balasore: The Balasore Police today arrested an officer of DRDO’s Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur for allegedly passing sensitive defence information to an agent of Pakistan.

The accused is a Senior Technical Officer of the ITR, police said.

A case has been registered in this connection at the Chandipur Police Station under Sections 120-A, 120-B and 31 of the IPC, and Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act.

According to police, Sub-inspector Chandra Sekhar Mohanty of Chandipur Police Station had filed a written report alleging that the officer of the ITR transmitted/ shared the secrets of sensitive defence information regarding missile test to a Pakistani agent for sexual as well as monetary gratification through WhatsApp conversation and exchange of sexual images and videos.

The officer was in contact with the agent for around one year, who was operating from Rawalpindi.

A mobile phone has been seized from the possession of the accused. While a total of three persons were initially detained, police later released two of them and apprehended the accused.

Police are suspecting involvement of others in the offence while further probe was underway.
