A group of armed men allegedly kidnapped three minors from a children’s home here on Wednesday night.

According to reports, around 15-20 armed men barged into Bhairavi Club— an open shelter for underprivileged children— and kidnapped them.

The victims have been identified as Suresh Pradhan (15) from Hidisingh Village under Bantal police limits in Angul district, Nagendra Gartia (16) from Kalamati under Athamallick police limits and Prasad Gartia (16).

It may be mentioned here that members of an NGO— SOCH— had rescued the trio from Khurda Road railway station on Wednesday while they were found roaming in the platform. Following this, they were sent to the shelter home.

However, a group of around 15-20 armed hooligans barged into the shelter home and abducted them after allegedly beating the staff.

Pradeep Mangaraj of Bhairavi Club and Subhendu Swain, Nepali Ghadei and Santosh Behera of SOCH filed a written complaint with Jatni police station.

Local police have begun probe into the incident.

Notably, the shelter home is located at an isolated place under Madhusudan Nagar area here housing more 25 children. While the centre is not under CCTV surveillance, it remains a challenge for the cops to crack the mystery.

Meanwhile, Khurda Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has intervened into the matter and it has been brought to the notice of District Collector and Commissionerate police.
