Briefing media persons after the meeting this afternoon, DGP Sanjiv Marik said the meeting took stock of the Maoist situation in the state and arrived at an agreement on where to withdraw BSF forces from and where to redeploy them.

“We took stock of the Maoist situation in the state and discussed the redeployment of the BSF so as to make the possible use of the central forces. Accordingly, we decided to withdraw BSF from places where Maoist activities have come down and redeploy them in places where there has been a spurt in left wing extremism,” the DGP said.

Marik made it clear that the redeployment would take place entirely on the basis of the intelligence gathered by the state police.

“We are in the best possible position to assess the situation. The redeployment would take place on the basis of the intelligence we have,” he said.
