Odisha police detain two suspects in CPI leader’s murder

Chhatrapur, July 25:

Police have detained two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Sakura Behera (30), a well-known local leader of CPI of Chhatrapur in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday night.

The two suspects are being interrogated by Crime Branch DSP Subash Chandra Acharya and SDPO Alekh Chandra Pahi.

Police have seized a mouser, a pair of slippers and a bike from the spot. A scientific team conducted an on-the-spot inquiry in the case on Thursday.

In anticipation of untoward incident in the town, 15 platoons of armed police force have been deployed in the twon.

“We have taken up the case seriously and are investigating it thoroughly,” Ganjam SP Ashish Kumar Singh told reporters here.

Meanwhile, the body of the CPI leader was taken in a procession by his supporters to Laxman Bhawan after the post mortem was conducted at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur on Wednesday morning.

Later, the body was taken to Puri where his mortal remains were consigned to flames at Swargadwara.
