Odisha police nab sharpshooter of D-Brothers from Madurai

Commissionerate Police have arrested a sharpshooter of notorious Dhalasamanta brothers’ gang from Madurai for his alleged involvement in the murders of Dipu, Omm and Farook, police said today.

A team of Commissionerate Police along with their Tamil Nadu counterparts arrested Arif Khan from Thirumangalam city in Madurai district who was on the run since long, Twin City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania told media in a press conference held today.

“During the investigation of Dipu and Omm murder cases, police found the involvement of Arif Khan. This apart, his name also figured during the interrogation of other accused. Since then, we were on the lookout for Arif. After getting reliable inputs, Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora formed a special team and sent it to Madurai. Arif Khan was arrested from Thirumangalam in Madurai yesterday. A fake voter identity card in the name of Rajendra Behera was seized from his possession. He will be forwarded to court today. He was involved in murders of Dipu, Omm and Farook,” Twin City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania said.

His house was searched here today where several sharp weapons have been seized, Khurania added.

With this, the number of persons arrested for having alleged links with the gangster duo Sushil and Sushant Dhalasamant (D-Brothers) has risen to 30.

According to police, Arif has been arrested for his complicity in the murders of Deepak Mallick alias Dipu, Omm Prakash Swain alias Omm and Mohammed Farook Tayeb alias Farook.

Notably, Dipu and Omm were bludgeoned to death and their bodies were disposed of in Jharkhand in 2013, Farook was shot dead at his shop in Malgodown area in 2004.

Arif, apart from being a sharpshooter, also worked as the driver of gangster siblings Dhalasamanta brothers, police said.

Arif is a resident of Kafla Bazar here and three cases, including murder and extortion, have been registered against him at various police stations in Cuttack.
