Odisha Police rejects BJP Yuva Morcha’s claim; terms ‘intel report’ fake

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police termed the intelligence report cited by the State unit of BJP Yuva Morcha as “fake and fabricated”. The BJP Yuva Morcha, in a press meet this evening, had cited a report of Odisha Police Intelligence Branch claiming that BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chose to contest the Assembly polls from Bijepur in Bargarh as he feared losing from Hinjili in Ganjam district.

Acting promptly, the State Police has also registered a case in this connection.

Taking to its official Twitter handle, DGP, Odisha, denied the report and said that a FIR is being registered in this matter.

“A fake document purported to be assessment report of some assembly segments by Odisha Police Intelligence Dept has been shown in a press meet by a political party. The document is absolutely fake & fabricated. An FIR is being registered in this matter,” it tweeted.

State BJP Yuva Morcha President, Tankadhar Tripathy, showed a letter of claiming it to be a survey report of Hinjili carried out by the Odisha Police Intelligence Branch, which, according to him, recommended that Naveen should not contest from Hinjili.

“The report had warned him (Naveen Patnaik) against contesting him from Hinjili due to anger among the farming community over lapses in KALIA scheme and post-cyclone relief works,” Tripathy claimed.

The State Police further said that legal action is being initiated against those who are trying defame the police department.

“While urgent legal action is being initiated against those responsible for defaming Odisha Police with the fabricated letter, all are advised to desist from circulating unverified information and documents,” Odisha Police wrote in its Twitter handle.

Besides, Odisha police appealed the people to abstain from circulating unverified information and documents on social media.

Earlier in the day, Patnaik, a four-time Chief Minister, had announced that he will contest from two Assembly constituencies: Bijepur in Bargarh district and Hinjili in Ganjam district in the forthcoming polls.

Reacting to the BJP’s allegation, BJD Spokesperson Sasmit Patra said: “As the BJP is scared over CM Naveen Patnaik’s decision to contest from Western Odisha, it is producing such fake and fabricated documents.”
