Odisha police to seek remand of arrested mafia brothers

Commissionerate police would produce the Dhal Samant brothers before a local court in Odisha’s Cuttack today to take the duo on remand for further interrogation. The criminal brothers were arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in tender fixing and extortion.

“We would produce them before SDJM court in Cuttack today and pray for at least 10-day remand,” Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora said told media here.

Acting on reliable information, Commissionerate police raided a house in Pokhariput and arrested the Sushant Dhal Samant and Sushil Dhal Samant. During raids, Rs 2, 65, 14, 740 in cash, mobile phones, a laptop and a diary was recoverd from their possession.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that they were involved in tender fixing and they were not able to give satisfactory answers on this. We would take help of various specialised agencies for further investigation. The elder of the two, Sushant, was staying in Mumbai, Bangalore, Visakhapatnam and Kolkata. We have formed different teams who will look into different aspects,” Arora added.

Arms dump comprising of a 9mm carbine, a DBBL (Double Barrel Breech Loading) gun and a magazine, four 9mm mousers, 23 DBBL and 127 9mm ammunition was recovered during a raid at the residence of the accused at Sector 6 of CDA, police said.

It may be mentioned that the Dhal Samant brothers were produced before a local court late last night and were sent to Choudwar Circle jail.
