Odisha politics heats up as Bijepur bypoll schedule out

New Delhi: Putting to rest speculations and allegations the Election Commission of India (ECI) this evening announced February 24 as the date for holding of bye-elections to the Bijepur Assembly seat in Odisha.

According to the schedule announced by the ECI through a press release, while the date for gazette notification has been fixed for January 30, the last date for filing of nominations have been fixed for February 6.

Similarly, while date for scrutiny of nominations has been kept on February 7, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures has been fixed for February 9.

Besides, date for counting of votes has been fixed for February 28.

Further, the election shall be completed by March 3.

Notably, the Bijepur Assembly seat had fallen vacant following the death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu on August 22.
