Odisha Polls: Bijoy Mohapatra to return to BJP tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Senior leader Bijoy Mohapatra, who had resigned from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in November last year, will return to the party tomorrow.

Party sources said the senior leader will rejoin the saffron party during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme at Jeypore tomorrow.

Today morning, BJP National Vice-President Baijayant Panda and party Odisha In-charge Arun Singh visited Mohapatra’s residence here and held discussion on his formal induction into the party. Mohapatra will also visit the party State headquarters here this afternoon, sources added.

Party State President Basant Panda said Mohapatra is still in BJP as his resignation has not been accepted by the party.

Worth mentioning, Mohapatra had unsuccessfully contested from Mahakalapada Assembly Constituency in 2014 on BJP ticket and had lost to BJD’s Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak by a small margin.

Later, he was made party campaign committee chairman for Kandhamal by-election in 2015. In December, 2017, he was expelled from Kendrapara district committee. After being sidelined by the party for a while, Mohapatra along with Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray had resigned from the party on November 30, 2018.
