Odisha polls: BJP complains to EC again about misuse of BNS

Reported by Chinmaya Dehury

Bhubaneswar, Mar 20:

The Odisha BJP once again moved the Election Commission of India (ECI) for alleged illegal use of Bharat Nirman Sevak (BNS) by the BJD Odisha government in its political campaign during the ongoing electioneering sacrificing all scruples, principles and constitutional norms.

The party appealed to the ECI to withdraw the letters addressed to all district election officers to utilize Bharat Nirman volunteers for the unconstitutional exercise.

“The state government is using the volunteers to bolster its poll prospects in the coming elections, misutilising the government treasury and the administration. The district collectors have been instructed to utilize the services of these sevaks to pull more and more people to the booths. In the name of persuading people to cast their votes, sevaks have been trained to highlight the achievements and schemes of the Naveen government,” alleged BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma at a press conference here.

He informed that the party has requested the election commission to stop such activities immediately and take action against the officer, who had issued the order misrepresenting government guidelines.
