Former Assembly Speaker Sarat Kar, who had resigned from the Congress recently, joined the BJD at Naveen Niwas this evening in the presence of BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.

Kar had resigned from the Congress on March 12 alleging negligent attitude of the party leadership towards senior leaders.

Kar who was the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly had quit the ruling Biju Janata Dal on April 3, 2004 after being denied the party ticket for the Assembly polls from Mahanga in Kendrapara district.
