Odisha Rath Yatra: Over 12 lakh devotees witness Trinity’s Suna Vesha

Puri, July 8:

Over 12 lakh devotees witnessed the Suna Vesha of the three deities—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra – in Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri on Tuesday night.

Preparations for the festivity began early in the morning as the servitors performed Mangala Alati of the deities at 6 am followed by other rituals like the Abakasa Niti, Gopala Ballav and Sakala Dhupa.

The Mahasnana (bathing ritual) of the deities began at 1 pm after which Madhyanna Dhupa and Sandhya Alati rituals were performed.

The Daitapati servitors began the Rajarajeswari Vesha (Suna Vesha) of the deities at 5 pm and completed it at 6.15 pm.

The Suna Vesha of the deities continued till 11.30 pm.

Lakhs of devotees moved inside the one-way barricade from Marichikote Chhak to have a darshan of the deities amid tight security arrangements.

The servitors also offered Sandhya Dhupa at 8 pm and Suna Besha Mailam at 10 pm.

The Chandana Lagi ritual was performed after 11.30 pm after which Badasinghara Vesha of the deities were held at 12 am (midnight) followed by Ballabha Badasinghara Besha at 3 am.

The Aadharapana Lagi of the deities would be held today while the deities will return to the main temple tomorrow.
