Bhubaneswar: The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Odisha mounted to 87 after four more persons tested positive for the virus today, informed Health and Family Welfare Department.
All the new patients- three females aged 48, 70, and 80 years and a 21-year-old male-are from Jajpur district. All are family members and neighbours of five previous patients, who had returned from West Bengal and tested positive on April 20. While three of them are residents of Basudevpur Gram Panchayat under Jajpur Sadar block, one is from Birajapur Panchayat under Dasarathpur block, said Collector Ranjan Das.
They were kept under institutional quarantine after April 20 and further contact tracing and followup action is underway. As the area is already under containment zone, no special arrangements are required.The new patients have been admitted to TATA Medica COVID-19 hospital in Duburi,he added
“Total 327 temporary medical camps in 311 GPs in the district are being used as quarantine facility. We have a list of over 700 people, who have come to Jajpur from West Bengal after March 29. Sample collection of the returnees is near complete,” said the Collector.
With the four new cases, the total number of positive cases in the district rose to 12. While one patient has recovered and been discharged from hospital, rest 11 active cases are undergoing treatment at COVID-19 hospitals in the state.
It is pertinent to mention here that currently there are 53 active cases out of the total 87 positive patients in the state. While 33 persons have recovered so far, one succumbed to the infection. As on April 22, total number of 15,985 samples have been tested in the state.
