Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, July 23:

Odisha rights body Campaign Against Fabricated Cases (CAFC) will hold a street protest against state repression on dissenting voices and fllow it up with a state level convention on the issue in Bhubaneswar on July 27, the CAFC convenor Narendra Mohanty said in a press release today.

The street protest will be staged at the Master Canteen Square at-10 am on July 27 and will be followed by the convention at Nagbhusan Bhawan, Bhubaneswar the same day at 11 am, during which the victims of state repression and their family members will be sharing their agony with the participants, the release informed.

The release said hundreds of innocent tribal, dalits and poor people are languishing within the four walls of different jails in Odisha for years after being accused “under false charges framed on fictitious grounds. These peersons include leaders of mass movements, workers of different political parties, social and human rights activists and their supporters.

” With an intention to facilitate the appropriation of our natural resources by the corporates, the state is targeting its own citizens. Oppression, deception, threat, fabricating false cases are some of the vicious tricks being used by the state to put down any kind of dissent by people. With such an approach, the Odisha government has let loose a reign of fear among the common people especially those who express their discontent and dissent, thus squeezing whatever space was there for freedom of expression and exercise of democratic rights,” the release alleged.

The CAFC has called upon people from all walks of life to participate in the convention and help build up a campaign against the trend of bringing fabricated charges and cases against dissenting voices and reclaim the democratic spaces for protest.
