Odisha: Sambalpur rly station set for image makeover

Sambalpur: Soon, you will have better passenger amenities at the Sambalpur railway station in Odisha as the railways will dedicate a host of infrastructural works and upgraded facilities tomorrow.

The Indian Railways had earlier identified Sambalpur station as an ‘A’ class station of East Coast Railway (ECoR) for redevelopment under the ‘Adarsh Station Scheme.

Passenger amenities and welfare works including front facade and circulating area, escalators along with foot over bridge and Ramps, food plaza and mechanised boot laundry at Sambalpur Station will be dedicated to the public on 14th February, a railway official said.

Front Facade and Circulating area:

With a view to enhance passenger comfort and to develop the various passenger facilities and also to beautify the Station premises two different works were sanctioned. Accordingly, front facade and circulating area were improved with a total cost of 3.5 crore. The above work included beautification of Station building front facade, circulating area, provision of separate In and Out gate, separate parking for two wheeler/four wheeler, auto/ taxi,  3 Nos. of  drop and go lanes, Fountain, Garden, LED theme lighting etc.

The railways has spent Rs 2.65 crore for the provision of escalators along with FOB and Ramps at Sambalpur Station.

Food Plaza at Sambalpur Station:

In order to provide good quality food to passengers, it was proposed to provide Food Plaza at Sambalpur Station. This food plaza is located on platform no. 1 and is accessible from the circulating area also. Passengers can now avail the facility round the clock at Sambalpur.  The food plaza offers north Indian dishes, south Indian dishes, Chinese and Continental cuisines. There are also bakery products and ice cream, fresh fruit juices, varieties of coffee, pizzas and burgers. There are also various sweets, including the local Chhennapoda. Opening of the multi-cuisine food plaza has enhanced the quality of food being made available to the passengers and has enhanced the beauty of the Station premises with its ultra modern design and looks.

Mechanised BOOT Laundry:

To provide good quality of washed linens for the comfort and satisfaction of passengers during train journey, a Boot Model Mechanised Laundry has been provided at Sambalpur Coaching Depot at a cost of Rs 6.45 crore.

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan will inaugurate these facilities in presence of other dignitaries.
