Infant mortality rate is the number of deaths of infants under one year per 1,000 live births. It is the go-to figure to measure a state’s health. And for Odisha, the rate is 49.

However, the death rate of girls stands at 53 in villages and the figure for cities is 34. Villages are facing more deaths rather than cities because of high malnutrition rate and poor access to health services.

The report reveals that Madhya Pradesh has the highest infant mortality rate in the country.

According to the report, Assam also stands second in infant deaths along with Odisha, followed by Uttar Pradesh at the third position, Rajasthan at fourth and Chhattisgarh at the fifth spot.
