While the latest letter specifies the revised quota to come into force retrospective from May, an earlier letter says the revision will be implemented from the month of June following which the state Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma has asked the authorities to ascertain the authenticity of the letters.

“Since the implementation of NFSA in the state, we had sought preference from 3.24 crore beneficiaries in the state. We had put forth our demands before the Centre based on the ratio of preference of consumption of rice and wheat. We will get a clear picture after we officially receive the letter which has come to our notice. In Union Minister Paswan’s letter, it is mentioned that it will be effective from May whereas the letter from Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution stipulates the implementation from June. I have instructed the principal secretary of the department to examine the authenticity of the letters,” Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma said.

Meanwhile, another letter to Union PNG Minister from Paswan circulated to media today said that it has been written by mistake that allocation of rice and wheat has been revised from May, 2016. It may kindly be read as allocation of rice and wheat has been revised from June, 2016.

It may be mentioned that Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan on Wednesday wrote a letter to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, saying that the allocation of rice and wheat has been revised from May, 2016 onwards in the ration as demanded by the state government.

“Earlier, Odisha was being allocated 133972 tons of rice and 35978 tons of wheat per month in the ratio of 78.81 : 21.18 which has now been revised to 145859 tons of rice and 24800 tons of wheat in the ratio of 85.47 : 14.53,” Paswan had said in the letter.
