Odisha siblings arrested in Mysuru for circulating fake notes

Mysuru police arrested two brothers hailing from Odisha’s Puri district for allegedly circulating counterfeit currency, police said today.

As many as 153 fake currencies of Rs 500 denomination were recovered from their possession.

A vegetable vendor Siddalinga Murthy tipped off the Nazarabad police about the suspicious transactions of the duo identified as Narayan Barik and Sudarshan Barik on Sunday.

The vendor said one of the accused used to visit the vegetable market at MG Road off Vani Vilas Road in Mysuru every morning for the last few days and used to purchase goods worth no more than Rs 20-Rs 30 before taking home the change.

The trader grew suspicious of the transactions and alerted the local police, who picked up the brothers for interrogation. The siblings confessed to the crime and said they had received a total of 200 such counterfeit notes from one Mangal, a native of West Bengal, in exchange of Rs 45,000.
