Odisha sprinter Dutee Chand today won the gold medal in women’s 200m event at the Taiwan Open Athletics Championship being held in Taoyuan City of Taiwan.

Even though this is her second gold at the championship, the disappointment remained as she was unable to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

She had won the gold in the women’s 100 meter event yesterday; however, it fell short of the Olympics qualifier time. While Olympics qualifier requires 11.32 seconds, she took 11.50 seconds to cover the distance.

Earlier, she clocked 11.33 seconds at the Federation Cup National Senior Athletics Championship-2016 held in New Delhi on April 18 raising hopes for an Olympics qualifier.

During today’s event, while Dutee covered the 200 metre distance in 23.52 seconds to strike gold, fellow Odia sprinter Srabani Nanda won silver with 23.55 seconds and HM Jyothi picked up the bronze with 23.92secs.

Interestingly, today’s 200m timings of both Dutee and Srabani are below their 23.34 and 23.36 timing they clocked in New Delhi.
