Odisha student dies consuming ‘stale’ food served at school, 13 sick

Nabarangpur: A class-VII student died today and 13 others became sick allegedly due to consumption of stale food served to them at Maliguda Sevashram School under Dabugaon block of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.

According to reports, the students were served the food yesterday during an eye-camp organised at the school. They later complained of stomach pain, dysentery and vomiting following which they were admitted to Dabugaon Community Health Centre.

However, a student, identified as Guru Bandhu Bhatra, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital today.

Tension gripped the medical after the death of the boy as parents of the students and some locals created ruckus alleging negligence on the part of school authorities as the reason behind the mishap.
