Odisha: Student intake at Odia University from next year 

Bhubaneswar: Students aspiring to get admissions into various courses at the first Odia language university here will have to wait for another year. The admission process at the varsity will begin from 2019-20 academic year.

Source said no officials except the officer-on-special duty (OSD) has been appointed for the university till yet. Besides, the syllabus for the university has not been prepared yet. In view of these, it is decided to begin admissions at the university from the next academic year, said an official.

While the State government had announced to open the university four years ago, nothing has been done in this regard yet. Besides, it was also decided to run the university from the IIT temporary campus at Toshali plaza in Satyanagar here five months back. However, no land has been identified yet for a permanent campus. In June, Dr Harihar Kanungo, the joint director of vocational education department, was appointed as the university OSD.

Kanungo said, “The administrative office of the Bhubaneswar IIT has been shifted from the Toshali Bhawan to its permanent campus in Jatni two days back. The university will run from the building for a temporary period now. All necessary works will begin once the building is handed over to us permanently.”

All theory and technical subjects will be taught in Odia while students can pursue Post Graduate in several subjects including Odia, he added. Meanwhile, the logo of the varsity has been released.
