Odisha student killed, body torched for failing to repay Rs 7K

Nuapada: A class-X student was allegedly killed and set afire by two youths in Khariar area of Odisha’s Nuapada district after he failed to repay Rs 7,000 taken as loan from one of them, police sources said today.

The deceased has been identified as Baibhav Saraf (15), son of Kailash Saraf, a businessman. The two accused have been arrested by the Khariar police and forwarded to court.

According to reports, Baibhav had taken the amount as loan from one of the accused. As he was unable to repay the money, the lender along with his friend kidnapped him on March 30.

They later thrashed him to death near a forest and set the body on fire by pouring petrol over it with an intention of eliminating evidence, sources added.

The father of the deceased had earlier lodged a complaint with police alleging that his son was abducted and the kidnappers were asking for a ransom of Rs 30 lakhs.

“Circumstantial evidences and identification by the family indicates that it is Baibhav’s body. In order to corroborate it, we have sought opinion from Forensic Expert of VIMSAR in Burla,” said Nuapada SP Smit P Parmar.
