Odisha students mourn victims of Peshawar outrage

While the entire world is yet to come to terms with Tuesday’s dastardly terrorist onslaught at the Peshawar Army School, Odisha schools on Wednesday paid tributes to the departed souls.

At least 132 students and nine staff fell to the indiscriminate firing by Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fidayeens.

Mass prayers, silent prayers, candlelight vigils, placards, posters and wearing black bands on faces were some of ways students paid homage and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.

Students of DAV Public Schools, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), KiiT International School, SAI International School in Bhubaneswar, ITS School in Kendrapara, Model Public School in Baleswar and other schools across the state held condolence meetings in their premises in the morning.

Over 22, 500 tribal students of KISS and students of KiiT International School observed two minutes of silence in memory of those who lost their lives to the terrorist attack on the school.

Condemning the heinous attack on innocent children, a student of Chandrasekharpur DAV Public School said, “The terrorists do not have any right to live in this planet. They did something utterly despicable.”

“We strongly condemn the brutal attack on the innocent children by terrorists. This type of heinous crime can not be tolerated in a civilized world. The entire world should come forward and fight against terrorism strongly,” said a student of KiiT.

In his condolence message, Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said when entire world is committed for peace, a small group of militants are trying to derail the peace process everywhere in the world.

Similar scenes were witnessed at SAI International School too. Students assembled under the sun to pay homage to the terror victims.

“I am shocked and cannot imagine that terror could strike children too. This should not happen to innocent children,” a girl student of SAI International School said.

Students in others parts of the state also expressed grief and anguish over the incident.

They also took to popular social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to post their feelings. Ssome of the postings read: “Children are to be loved and cared not to be killed,” “Fall short of words… RIP” and “Go to hell”.

With unspeakable pain in their eyes, the school-goers stood shoulder-to-shoulder with placards in their hands to express solidarity with the Peshawar massacre victims.

The voices of revulsion against the act of cowardice in Peshawar may not be crossing the borders, but the prayers certainly would be reaching the departed ones who were laid to rest in a mass burial today.
