Odisha students’ union polls: Nomination today, final candidates list on Oct 4

Bhubaneswar: The college and universities authorities fixed today for filing nomination papers for the upcoming students’ union polls scheduled on October 11 across Odisha.

As per Lyngdoh Committee rules, the candidates can file the nomination papers between 9.00 am and 12.00 noon on Wednesday.

The nomination papers will be verified between 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm. The list of eligible candidates will be released at 11.00 am on October 4.

The candidates can withdraw nominations between 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm. The final candidates list will be out at 5.00 pm on Thursday.

As per the poll schedule, the ‘Why I stand for meeting’ will be held a day before poll date i.e on October 10. The voting will be conducted between 8.00 am and 2.00 pm on Oct 11. The counting will be from 2.00 pm onwards. The final results will be declared by the evening.

The oath taking ceremony of the winners will be held at 11.00 am on October 12.

The candidates have been asked to obey the Lyngdoh Committee rules. In violation of the guidelines, action will be taken against the candidate.

In view of possible tension in college and varsity campus during students’ union elections, the Higher Education department directed all the district administration to deploy security forces in six universities and 283 degree colleges to avoid untoward incidents.

Notably, the authorities have cancelled the students’ union polls in three universities including Ravenshaw in Cuttack and 12 colleges across the State due to violence on the premises.
