Odisha: Tehsil office clerk among two held for extorting by posing as Maoists

Malkangiri: Police today arrested two persons, including a clerk of Chitrakonda Tehsil office, in Odisha’s Malkangiri district for allegedly trying to extort money by posing as Maoists.

The arrested have been identified as Keshav Khila, the clerk, and Rama Chandra Majhi.

According to reports, the two had demanded Rs 5 lakh from Chinha Rao, who works as supervisor at Motu Tehsil office, by identifying themselves as Maoists.

Rao had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Malkangiri police. Forming a special team, Malkangiri police station IIC Soumendu Sekhar tracked the mobile phones of the accused duo.

In a bid to apprehend the wrongdoers, the police team hid at the spot in disguise where the two were scheduled to arrive to receive the amount. As they reached the place posing as Maoists, the cops nabbed them.

Both have been arrested and investigation into the incident is underway.
