Odisha: This COVID-19 patient played cricket, had haircut at salon

Bhubaneswar: Flouting government’s lockdown guidelines blatantly, an 18-year-old youth of Odisha’s Balangir district, who tested positive for COVID-19 on May 1, earlier played cricket in his village and had a haircut at a salon putting health condition of many others at risk.

According to official sources, the youth reached Balangir from Tirupur, Tamil Nadu by Dhanbad Express on March 17. He travelled to Lekhiria village from railway station in a hired vehicle along with four co passengers.

Though he remained in home quarantine from March 18 to April 5, he later played cricket with his friends in the village frequently between April 6 and April 30, sources said, adding that he went to a salon at Salepalli during the period for having a haircut.

Worth mentioning, opening of salons was restricted by the government during the lockdown to prevent chances of coronavirus transmission.

Swab sample of the youth was collected due to his travel history and he tested positive for the virus on May 1. He was admitted to Balangir COVID hospital on the very day.
