Odisha to introduce unified code to simplify revenue laws

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government is planning to introduce a unified code by simplifying the revenue laws to help people to get justice in land disputes.

The process has been initiated to make the land laws easier for common people, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Maheswar Mohanty after attending a high level meeting at the State Secretariat on Saturday.

According to reports, a unified code will be introduced by simplifying the existing seven revenue laws that have as many as 299 sections. Now, the draft code has only 112 sections for speedy disposal of revenue cases to benefit people.

As per the decision at the meeting, the draft code will be referred to the Law department for scrutiny and public opinion will be taken on the draft code that will be uploaded on the website.

Earlier, State government had set up a 12-member panel headed by Board of Revenue member to prepare Odisha Land and Revenue Code that will simplify the land laws for people.

Most of the complicated laws need to be simplified. The unified code will make easier for people to understand the revenue laws. It will also be helpful for revenue officials to provide justice to common people, source in the revenue department said.
