Odisha to provide transport allowance to school students

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has decided to provide transport allowance to students of primary and upper primary schools in remote areas of the state.

As per a notification issued by the School and Mass Education Department, a transport allowance of Rs 600 per month will be paid to a student whose attendance is 75 percent or above, Rs 400 to student having 50 percent to 74 percent attendance and Rs 300 to student having 30 percent to 50 percent attendance.

The allowance will be paid through account payee cheque or DBT. However, the allowance will not exceed Rs 6000 per year, the notification added. A student whose attendance is less than 30 percent will not be eligible for the allowance.

Students of primary and upper primary schools in urban areas who belong to extremely deprived group will also receive the allowance.

Those students covering a distance of more than one KM to attend classes in primary schools and over three KM to attend classes in upper primary schools will be eligible to get the financial aid.
