Odisha to pump in Rs 7. 62 cr for beautification of Bindusagar Lake

The famous Bindusagar Lake in Odisha capital will get a facelift in two years for which Rs 7.62 crore will be spent on musical fountains, decorative lights and sitting arrangements for visitors.

State Tourism department has made a blueprint for beautification of Bindusagar Lake at a cost of Rs 7.62 crore for 2015-16 and 2016-17. The two year project aims to clean and beautify the Bindusagar Lake.

“Bindusagar will turn into a beautiful tourist site with musical fountains, laser lighting and the lake will be surrounded with colourful decorative lights,” said Nitin Bhanudas Jawale, Director of Tourism.

“In keeping with the Smart City concept and to retain the spirit of the Temple city, this project will spend Rs 4 crore in the first phase while in the next year the rest of the amount will be used, said Jawale, adding, “We hope that the project will be finished within two years.”

At a cost of Rs 93 lakh, the four sides of Bindusagar Lake will be beautified with decorative lights. While musical fountains will entertain people with light and sound show. Arrangements will also be made for people to sit and enjoy, he added.

The beautification process will kick start after the Tourism department receives the report from IDCO, he informed.

In a recent meeting headed by Culture and Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, IDCO has been asked to prepare a project report for the beautification process.

To create a beautiful setting, all the house owners surrounding the lake will be asked to paint their houses in the same colour, he said.
