Odisha toll gate staff decamp with Rs 46 lakh

Toll gates are fast emerging as the latest target of looters in Odisha. On a day when armed robbers looted Rs 15 lakh frm the staff of a toll gate in faraway Chandikhol in Jajpur district, two employees of the Ashoka Buildcon toll gate at Barahaguda on NH 6, 10 km away from the district headquarters town of Bargarh, allegedly decamped with Rs 46 lakh, police said.

According to an FIR lodged by the toll gate authorities at Bargarh town police station today, two employees of the toll gate Alok and Dharmendra Singh have decamped with the Rs 46 lakh kept in a locker at the toll gate after stealing the keys of the locker from the cashier, who was sleeping inside the room where the locker is located.

Money collected through toll receipts since Saturday was kept in the locker as both Sunday and Monday were bank holidays. The CCTV cameras at the toll gate have recorded the act, the FIR stated.

Four persons, including the cashier of the toll gate, have been detained by the police and interrogations are on while a special team is already at work to nab the two accused, said Nrupacharan Bansana, SDPO, Bargarh.

“We have detained four persons including the cashier. Their lane supervisor and another employee have decamped with Rs 46.51 lakh. We have dispatched a special team to nab them,” said Bansana.
