Odisha tribal girl sold off in Delhi for Rs 40K rescued

Sundargarh: A tribal girl hailing from Lephripara in Odisha’s Sundargarh, who was sold off for Rs 40,000 by a middleman in New Delhi four years ago, has been rescued by the district police.
Besides the girl, six others including three minors have been rescued after raids at several places by Sundargarh police in New Delhi.
Worth mentioning, the middleman had taken the victim to Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh on the pretext of providing her job there.
However, he took her to New Delhi and sold her off to a placement agency for Rs 40,000. The agency later engaged her as a domestic help at a person’s house at Sangam Vihar in New Delhi where she was undergoing torture.
A video surfaced last month in which the girl was appealing for help as she was not being allowed to communicate with her family.
As the incident came to fore, Sundargarh SP Pinak Mishra formed a special team to rescue her.
After conducting raids at various places, the team managed to rescue the girl and others.
