Odisha triple murder: CBI probe team visits Puri hotel

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths today arrived in Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri to investigate the sensational triple murder in hotel Jamindar Palace in 2013.

The three-member investigating team, with the help of local police, visited the hotel and began its probe in room no 307 where Ankita Agarwal (30), daughter Bani (7) and son Divyanshu (4) were found dead on the bed.

A Mathura-based jeweller Amit Agarwal had checked into the hotel on Dec 9, 2013 with his family. He had paid Rs 15, 000 to the hotel as advance for a seven-day stay. However, the occupants did not respond to housekeeping staff on Dec 15 (Saturday) following which the hotel authorities informed the police. The local police broke open the room and found the three bodies lying on the bed.

A case of murder was registered at the Sea Beach police station and an alert was sounded to track Amit while the Uttar Pradesh police were informed of the matter.

“We had gone to the hotel for inquiry. The case is in investigation stage. We cannot disclose anything now,” CBI DIG CB Bagchi said.

“We have handed over documents related to the case to the CBI officials. The case records will help them in their investigation,” Puri SP Asish Kumar Singh said.

Notably, this is the first visit of the probe team to Puri since taking over the case.
