Odisha twins Jaga-Kalia stable and improving: AIIMS

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The conjoined twins from Odisha– Jaga and Kalia–whose heads were separated on October 25 at the AIIMS in Delhi, continued to be in the ICU but their condition is improving.

The government-run hospital informed it to the media by releasing a health bulletin this evening.

The two-years-five-months old twins will have to be in the ICU for next 7 to 10 days and a team of 25 doctors is keeping a close watch on the duo, the bulletin added.

The doctors are expecting the health condition of the twins will improve slowly after 10 to 15 days as both are breathing properly.

The statement said their breathing condition and blood circulation were good.

“Jagga is showing response to some commands and is on dialysis to support his compromised kidney function.”

A team of 15 consultations and 10 residents are looking after them under the supervision of two professors.

“They are also being looked after by plastic surgeons… We hope their condition would improve slowly over a span of 10 to 15 days,” the statement added.

The twins hailing from Kandhamal district were separated following a 16-hour-long surgery at the AIIMS in New Delhi. A team of around 30 specialists from the institute’s neurosurgery, neuro-anaesthesia and plastic surgery departments performed the marathon surgery.
