Odisha: Utkal varsity’s Anthropology Dept picked as NRC

Bhubaneswar: Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry today notified Anthropology Department of Odisha’s Utkal University as a National Resource Centre (NRC).

The Department has been declared as NRC for online refresher programmes for higher education faculty through SWAYAM- Study Webs of Active –Learning for Young Aspiring Minds, a programme initiated by the Centre, designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of education policy-access, equity and quality.

Utkal University’s Anthropology Department is one among the 75 various discipline-specific NRCs identified by the Union HRD Ministry, which are tasked to prepare online training material with focus on latest developments in the discipline, new and emerging trends, pedagogical improvements and methodologies for transacting revised curriculum.

The Ministry has launched the initiative for online professional development of 1.5 million higher educational faculty using the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform-SWAYAM.

Under the initiative in-service teachers, irrespective of their subject and seniority will have an enabling opportunity to keep abreast of the latest developments in their disciplines through the technology based online refresher course.

The NRCs will develop the refresher module which will include the latest trends in their earmarked discipline by June 15 each year.

Training materials will be uploaded and made available through SWAYAM to all the teachers from October 1 each year and based on the response, the course can be repeated in the following January.
