Odisha Veterinary Officer caught with nearly Rs 4 lakh unaccountable cash

Baripada: An unaccountable cash of Rs 3.91 lakh was seized from Mayurbhanj Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO) Abhay Kumar Tripathy by Vigilance official while he was on his way to Bhubaneswar today.

Following the seizure, the  anti-graft wing conducted  simultaneous raid on  his residence at Jayadev Vatika in Bhubaneswar and his office chamber and rented house at Baripada.

Acting on reliable information that the CDVO is proceeding to Bhubaneswar from Baripada with huge cash in a car, Vigilance officials intercepted his vehicle at Hatapada in Betnoti of Mayurbhanj district at around 8.15 AM. During verification, Rs 3,91,000 kept in five envelopes were found in his possession. When the CDVO  failed to give satisfactorily explanation regarding source of the cash, the officials detained him.

Further investigation is on in this connection, sources said.
