The court sentenced former OHPC deputy manager Dillip Mohanty to three years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh. In the event of failure to pay up the fine, he will have to undergo a further term of 15 months jail, it ruled.

Mohanty’s wife Krushnapriya was convicted of assisting her husband in accumulation of illegal wealth and sentenced to one year’s imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50, 000.

Notably, the vigilance had raided Mohanty’s house in 2004 on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Property worth Rs 1.78 crore had been unearthed during the raid at his house. Mohanty failed to provide satisfactory answer to the source of the funds to the tune of Rs 42.33 lakh.

Dillip said he and his wife would challenge the verdict in a higher court. He claimed that his wife ran a business and the money that the vigilance claimed was unaccounted for was earned out of that.
