Odisha Vigilance Inspector Manasi Jena dismissed for taking Rs 10 lakh bribe

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance Inspector Manasi Jena was today dismissed from service for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a government official.

Odisha DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal took the action against her. She has already been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

“After carefully analyzing the facts and circumstances of the case and after due application of mind, I conclude that Inspector Smt Manasi Jena deserves to be dismissed by exercising power vested under Article 311 (2) (b) of the Constitution in the Appointing Authority as it is not reasonably practicable to hold a departmental enquiry against Smt. Jena,” said an official order issued by the DGP.

“Accordingly, in larger Public Interest, I being the Appointing Authority and the Disciplinary Authority for Inspector of Police Smt.Manasi Jena (under suspension), in exercise of powers conferred under Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution of India, hereby order dismissal of Inspector Smt.Manasi Jena from service with immediate effect,” the order added.

Jena was caught red-handed by the Vigilance on May 13 while accepting Rs 10 lakh from a government official for the closure of a petition against the latter. She was allegedly accepting the money as bribe through her associate Mukesh Sahoo of Bargarh.
