Odisha vigilance raids Chakapad JE’s house

Odisha vigilance today raided the office and residences of Santosh Patra, junior engineer (JE) of Chakapad block in Kandhamal district on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Following orders from SP (Vigilance) Berhampur division, vigilance sleuths conducted simultaneous raids at Patra’s own house and in-laws house in Berhampur, rented the house at Tikabali and his office at Chakapad.

Vigilance officials have seized Rs 2, 56,000 in cash and some bank passbooks from Patra’s rented house at Tikabali. The bank passbooks show deposits amounting to around Rs 1, 89, 421, sources revealed.

However, Patra said he had kept the money for making arrear payments for some works done in the block.

“I had kept the cash at my home to make arrear payments for some construction works undertaken in the block. That money was seized by the vigilance today,” said Patra.
