Odisha Weather News: Rainfall, thunderstorm likely in these districts today

Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha are likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorm today, the Regional Meteorological Centre here forecasted.

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada, the Meteorological Centre predicted.

Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Balasore, it added.

On the other hand, the Bay of Bengal may host two cyclonic circulations/ low pressure areas in two weeks this month, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted.

There is likelihood of formation of cyclonic circulation/ low pressure area over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during week 1 (September 2 to 8) and week 2 (September 9 to 15), the IMD said in its North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis.

However, considering the model guidance and environmental features, it is inferred that no cyclogenesis (formation of depression) is likely over the North Indian Ocean during the period, the outlook added.
