Odisha woman burnt alive for dowry

In yet another shocking dowry murder case in Odisha, 19-year old young woman was allegedly burnt alive by her in-laws late on Thursday night in Brahmapur.

The incident happened at Panigrahi Nagar of the town, near Fast gate under Bada Bazaar police limits. The victim has been identified as Usharani Sahu.

Brahmapur SP Sarthak Sarangi, SDPO Thakur Prasad Patra and Bada Bazaar police reached the sport after receiving the complaint and are investigating the case. They have been questioning her father Rajendra Kumar Sahu to get a detailed background of the dowry torture.

As per the complaint filed by Sahu, the husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law of the woman set the young woman on fire after pouring kerosene on her.

The body of the victim was recovered in the presence of the district magistrate and then sent to Brahmapur District Headquarter Hospital for post-mortem. An FIR has also been lodged in Bada Bazaar police station on this regard.

“We have detained her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law and are questioning them.  While the family members of the girl claim that she was murdered, her in-laws have been insisting that it was a suicide,” said Brahmapur SP Sarthak Sarangi.
