Odisha woman jumps into husband’s funeral pyre; sustains severe burns

Nayagarh, Oct 19:
In a heartbreaking incident in Khandapada in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, a woman unable to bear the shock of her husband’s death, Sunday attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the funeral pyre of her husband, reports said.

The woman identified as Lipina Senapati after being rescued has been admitted to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital in critical condition, reports added. She has sustained severe burn injuries.

The incident occurred at Kumbhar Sahi of Khandapada. Lipina’s husband Rabindra Senapati who was working in Hyderabad had died in an accident.

While Rabindra’s body was being cremated, an inconsolable Lipina jumped into her husband’s pyre, local sources said.
