Odisha writer Dash Benhur gets Central Sahitya Akademi award

Eminent Odia writer Prof Jitendra Narayan Dash, popularly known as Dash Benhur in Odisha, will receive the Central Sahitya Akademi’s Bal Puraskar 2014 for his immense contribution to children’s literature.Dash Benhur

Poet Narendra Bhoi will receive Central Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Puraskar 2014 for his book of poems ‘Pida Parba’.

The Central Sahitya Akademi announced the awards in Guwahati today.

Dash Benhur is widely respected across Odisha for his mammoth work in the field of children’s literature in Odia. He is the author of more than 100 books, including 15 collections of short-stories. 

61-year old Prof Dash, a noted Gandhian scholar, has been honoured with numerous awards including the ‘Odisha Sahitya Akademi’ and ‘Odisha Bigyan Academy’ Awards. He retired as the Principal of Samanta Chandrasekhar (Autonomous) College, Puri and lives in Bhubaneswar.

He is currently the editor of ‘Pilanka Sambad’, a popular tabloid for children published by the Eastern Media Ltd.
