The cyber crime wing of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) today arrested a 28-year-old youth from Bhimtangi area under Airfield police limits for cheating a lady after opening a fake Facebook account in her name.

Charges under sections 294, 354, 354 (A), 354 (D), 500, 465, 469, 506 of IPC and section 66 (A)/66 (C) of Information Technology (Amendment) Act-2008 have been slapped against the accused, identified as Rajaram Biswal of Bhimtangi.

Acting on a complaint lodged by a lady of Bhubaneswar regarding opening of fake account in her name, cyber crime police of CB registered the case and investigated into it.

During the course of investigation, it was found that Biswal had opened the fake Facebook account in the name of the complainant. It also came into light that long back the accused was having friendship with the complainant and was interested in marrying her. But the women was reluctant saying they were only friends. But the accused tried to pressurise the lady to marry him and harassed her and her family with dire consequences, informed the police.

Biswal was arrested and was forwarded to the SDJM court here today after prima facie evidence was found against him, polce said adding further investigation was in progress in the cases.
