The cyber crime cell of the Crime Branch of Odisha Police today arrested a 26-year-old youth from Nayagarh town on charges of fraudulently withdrawing cash from the bank account of a Congress leader by using a stolen ATM card.

The arrested youth identified as Nilakantha Pani, alias Nilu, is a resident of Nayagarh district and has been booked under section 379, 419, 420 of IPC and section 66-C and 66-D of IT (Amendment) Act, 2008, said an official release of the Crime Branch today.

Nilakantha was arrested from Nayagarh town while the Crime Branch was investigating into a complaint lodged by Gurupada Nanda, a former MLA and senior Congress leader, the release said.

Notably, Nanda had registered a case in this regard at the Cyber Police Station in Cuttack on September 16, 2014.

According to the details of the FIR, Nanda had alleged that he had received an SMS from his bank that Rs 4,300 had been withdrawn from his account and on inquiry at the bank he was informed by the bank authorities that Rs 4, 39,000 had been withdrawn from his account.

The senior Congress leader had informed in his FIR that he had lost his ATM card earlier.

Police will be producing the youth before a local court after further interrogation, the release said.
