Odisha’s avg life expectancy is 10 yrs less than Kerala!

The average life expectancy in Odisha is 64.8 years which is 10 years less than Kerala at 74.8  years, the highest in India.

Also the mortality rate in Odisha is higher than the national average, while only 7 persons die per 1000 persons annually in India, in Odisha the figure is 8.4 per thousand.

The data has been collected by the central government Economic Survey report, which was recently presented in the Parliament.

It states that Odisha’s mortality rate is much higher in comparison to Kerala (6.9), Jammu & Kashmir (5.3), Rajasthan (6.5), Gujarat (6.5) and West Bengal (6.4).

States like Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have an average life expectancy above 70 years. However, the average life span in Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh lower than Odisha.

According to the report, the average life expectancy of women is higher than men in the country. The national average life expectancy of a man stands at 65.8 years compared to a woman is 69.3 years. In Odisha, it is 65.9 years (women) and 63.8 years (men).

Kerala records highest average woman life expectancy 77.8 years. In case of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Odisha has the third highest number of cases after Madhya Pradesh and Assam. In Odisha 51 newborn die among 1000 infants, while the number is 54 newborn deaths against 1,000 infants in Assam and Madhya Pradesh. The IMR is 12 in Kerala, 21 in Tamil Nadu, 24 in Maharashtra and 26 in Punjab. The national IMR stands at 40.

Similarly, the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is also higher in Odisha as compared to other States.
