Odisha’s Bhitarkanika National Park Closed For Tourists

Kendrapara: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district was today closed for tourists for the annual census of crocodiles. The closure will continue till January 4.

“In view of the census of crocodiles, it has been decided that the Bhitarkanika National Park will be closed for tourists from December 26 to January 4. Tourists are advised not to plan their visits during the period,” said Bikash Ranjan Das, Forest Division Officer, Rajanagar.

Boating by tourists can disturb crocodiles which will subsequently affect the census process, for which entry to the national park has been prohibited, he said.

As many as 23 teams– 12 of Bhitarkanika National Park, 2 of Gahirmatha range, 2 of Mahakalapada range and 7 of Rajanagar range– have been formed for the census.
